GREECE - c. 480 B.C.
Aphrodite, Greek goddess of love and beauty, is depicted on this coin holding the golden apple of discord. This prize was awarded to the most beautiful of the Olympian goddesses in the judgment of Paris, prince of Troy. The judgment was believed to have inspired the Trojan war.
These are made with gold plate over pewter, and a garnet cabachon in the bottom. Earnuts are included and added to these! They measure 1-1/4 inches long by just shy of 1/2 inches wide - the earwires are attached to the piece so cannot be changed to clip-on.
Perfect for Regency on up into the 21st century. Photo three is of me at Military Thru the Ages in 2025 wearing these lovely earrings.
