This necklace was inspired by the art of ancient Greece and Italy. The formal symmetry and simple elegance of classical Greek and Roman jewelry evolved during the Hellenistic period into more lavish designs. The Etruscans of central Italy further enhanced jewelry design of the classical world by incorporating delicate filigree and granulation beads. Necklaces like these were also worn in the late 18th century up into the 19th and 20th.
I offer this style that I made using a new gold-plated over copper chain. The necklace has a a gold-plated clasp closure.
The pearl necklace measures 16-1/2 inches long. I also have added a second style with Rococo shell drops inbetween the pearls that is 16 inches long. This listing is ONLY for the necklace.
I also have matching earrings available in my earrings section.
If you are interested in a necklace with more pearls or a longer one, please convo me for pricing or a custom order.
I can also take off the clasp and you can wear it using a ring to close it with a ribbon if you so desire.
We start seeing this style necklace in the later half of the 18th century and into the 19th as shown by the portrait of Elizaveta Alexeevna by Vigee Lebrun, 1802. The necklace sits beautifully on. Very limited stock.
