This ring is an exclusive with the Gray Horse! It is modeled after an original that I own from the time period with paste stones. This version has actual precious or semi-precious Amethyst, "Diamond" (or Swarovski Crystal in this case), White Opal, Ruby, and Emerald!
These are prong set - I wanted to offer it to others to wear everyday or for your costuming and historical needs. Okay - I wanted one for me too!
These come in sizes 4-11, including half sizes in polished gold plated over brass, 10ct, 14ct yellow or white gold, or sterling silver. The drop down menu shows what I have in stock which includes gold plate over brass and sterling silver in various sizes. Metal prices fluctuate.
Currently, have a few in stock and they are listed by size.
The portrait is of Madame Marie Marcotte (Marcotte de Sainte-Marie), née Suzanne-Clarisse de Salvaing de Boissieu by Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres, 1826 with detail of her finger showing an ADORE ring.
These are handmade in the U.S.A.
I like to use several sources for my research, including original pieces. In the case of my original ring, it is untouched and still as it was when it was made. The language of stones in the time period had special meaning for the intimate acknowledgement of love between couples. Diamonds for constancy, sapphires for the soul, emeralds for faith, and rubies for passion. When one sees a two stone ring set with a diamond and a ruby it can be interpreted as an enduring passion between lovers. Charming love tokens or rings were most cherished mementos of the Georgian era, especially if they contained a secret message. The first letters of the words for particular gemstones would spell out, in succession, a romantic word or phrase. These acrostic pieces were charming and singled out the wearer as one who was loved openly and dearly. The most often seen of these phrases were REGARD, DEAREST, ADORE, LOVE, ME, AND FOREVER. (Taken from Georgian Jewelry by Ginny Redington Dawes).
I also have a REGARD ring in another listing.
The original REGARD ring can be seen in the last photo.
