This listing is for my hand painted seamed light or heavy weight cotton (small generally fits shoe size 5-8, large 9-12). I'm currently painting small or large light weight cotton, large heavy weight cotton, and silk. Silk is in a separate listing. The drop down menu will take you to the photo of the pair indicating Sm (Small) Lg (Large) and its description.

International sizes are small 35-39, and large 40-43+ - I am a size ladies 39 in most international shoes and wear the small stocking. Generally, in the U.S. sizing system, men's shoe sizes are about 1.5 to 2 sizes smaller than women's.

For example:
Women's Size 7 - Men's Size 5
Women's Size 8 - Men's Size 6
Women's Size 9 - Men's Size 7

"These have a beautiful clocking pattern on one side of each ankle. Clocked stockings were worn by all genders for several centuries in different forms. As late as the 1920s and 30s, they still regularly appeared in women's fashion. These are a great style choice even with modern clothing. A simulated seam runs down the back of these stockings, which gives them a little extra style and authenticity. Historical Note - "Lace clocks" were a result of various attempts by hosiers in the 1760s to create an openwork fabric, which led to lace clocks, then to machine-made lace. Lace had for centuries been made only by hand. A form of lace was produced on a stocking frame around 1769." We also see embroidered and painted "clocks" on one or both sides of stockings in the 18th and 19th centuries. The John Ash Dictionary, Volume I, mentions a "Clock" as being defined also as "...an inverted kind of work in the leg of a stocking..."

You can see more examples of clocked stockings at the 18th Century Notebook - http://www.larsdatter.com/18c/stockings.html

They are thigh high, and can be worn with garters or just folded down to stay up. A simulated seam runs down the back of these stockings, which gives them a little extra style and authenticity. I do my best to paint the design exactly on the side so the seam is in the back.

The cotton is 75% cotton and 25% nylon, the silk is 70% silk an 30% nylon.

Washing instructions - hand wash inside out in cold water with a mild soap like Woolite. While nothing is perfect, the paint is heat sealed and should not bleed but to be sure, place a color grabber/catcher sheet inside just in case as it will catch any color on it away from the stocking. Lightly wring out the stockings, place flat on a bath towel and roll it up to squeeze the water out. Unroll an hang to air dry.

The last photo is of me wearing a pair that I made for myself.
