I have found some awesome new metal buttons to make up some historically accurate reproduction cuff links! They are sold in a set (which is two pairs). A pair is enough to connect one sleeve together.
These would look wonderful on your shirts for modern day wear, or shirts and shifts for your historical needs.
I currently have light green, dark green, and pink in stock in a gold plate with detailed edging, and green in silver in plain edging. They measure 11-1/2mm or about 3/8th inch.
