This is a unique and beautiful reproduction of an original fan that I own. This reproduction is made from cloth and wood with a Georgian design. As with any reproduction, there are differences from the original. I have placed the two together in the last two photos.

I may also have some imperfect fans which will just have some odd way that they fold, but when open there is no issue and look fine.

I’m excited to be able to offer these! I have seen dates for this fan, and they are all over the place so I have done a little research. This was an advertising fan from Parfume Pompeia by L.T. Piver in the style of an 18th Century fan and used to be scented. From what I can find on-line, the company started in 1774 in France.

In 1896 Louis Toussaint Piver's son-in-law, Jacques Rouché, became a director of the company. As the Piver company needed to be modernized, he enlisted the help of chemical engineers who developed the first synthetic perfumes. He hired a poly technician and physics associate, Georges Darzens, who created Trèfle Incarnat. Among their clients were Sarah Bernard and the Bonaparte family. In terms of advertising, Rouché introduced the scented fan and menu in about 1901.

The company has changed hands so many times and closed its doors in 1973. It was recapitalized in 1988 and now has many subsidiaries. My original fan is possibly 121 years old. I have altered it in places to make it mine, but give credit to its creator Jacques Rouché. Mine is not scented.

It measures 9 inches long, and only printed on one side. Please note that the printing on the fabric can have some fans that are lighter than others, it is the natural process in making these from the original.

I have a Pinterest page with historical prints and paintings with ladies holding fans. Check it out and follow me at https://www.pinterest.com/kkwalte/18th-century-fans/

I also found a website with a history of fans - https://web.ics.purdue.edu/~salvo/@SEA/exhibit/index.asp

I have to mail these in a special box, so the postage reflects that cost as well.
